Course programme

First Diploma in Performing Arts: Music

This course provides a varied programme of performing, music theory and music technology for you to enjoy.

What will I be doing?
If you want to get into music, whether it be playing, performing, recording or learning about the industry, then you are at the right place. BSix has a dedicated recording studio, instruments, performing space and established industry links. You will gain practical skills and vital experience, as well as obtaining relevant qualifications, but above all else you will enjoy the course. It provides you with the opportunity to turn ideas and dreams into reality.

Additional qualification: Rock School Graded Examinations in Music Performance
As an integral part of your course you will also learn to develop your skills with live music performance. This will involve using keyboard, guitar or drums. You will be entered for live examinations and will receive an additional qualification from the Rock School when you successfully pass.

How will I be assessed?
You are assessed throughout the year on your practical work, which includes your commitment to rehearsals as well as the final product. Some practical work will be seen by an external examiner, while some will be graded 'in-house' at BSix. You will also need to keep a portfolio or 'musician's log'. The rehearsal process and evaluation of the final product is recorded in the portfolio, which will be regularly checked and graded by your teacher.

Where do I go from here?
After completing this course you can go on to take the National Diploma in Music Technology, a two year course which will prepare you for university or a career within the music industry.
