Course programme

What will I learn?

Course will include: health and safety in construction; basic tools skills and maintenance; setting out joists and trusses; stud partitioning; fixing skirting and architrave; door hanging; fixing locks; manufacturing of basic joinery items; and Functional Skills

How will I be assessed?

Students are assessed by completing a portfolio, undertaking timed online tests and carrying out observed practical tasks

This can lead to a site carpenter role You could also progress into Higher Education (degree-level) studies

Entry Requirements

You will normally progress onto this course from the Level 1 Bricklaying Diploma A Level 1 Functional Skills 'Numeracy and Literacy' qualification in also required (otherwise, you will need to 'score' a Level 1 or above in the Functional Skills 'Number and Communication' diagnostic test All students will require a satisfactory report from school Entry on the course is subject to an interview

All work experienced is encouraged

Additional Information & Other Costs

You will be required to have steel toe capped safety work boots and a basic stationary kit for writing, drawing and classroom activities A carpentry textbook will be required
