Course Description
The main aim of the course is to provide the values, skills and knowledge to equip students to work effectively in a range of care settings. It is also to provide an award which is flexible enough to meet the needs of employers, hence the inclusion of National Occupational Standards. It is strongly preferred that candidates have some experience of care work, either paid or voluntary. All students on this course will be subject to a Disclosure Scotland check.

Preferred Entry Requirements
Ideally 1 Higher Grade pass which should demonstrate good communication skills. Alternatively a range of SQA NC modules or NQ units (or equivalent). Mature applicants with other qualifications and experience may be accepted onto the course.

Hours per week: 18 hours

Course Content
Social Care Theory Mental Health Psychology Protect Individuals from Possible Harm and Abuse Sociology Social Care Graded Unit Stress Management. Students will undertake a work placement during the course.

Progression
Employment in any setting where care and support is being provided for individuals and groups. Possible Progression to University particularly Degree courses in Social Work.
