About this course

- Have an overview of some of the main social media platforms (including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and their uses
- Understand the advantages of social media for developing your business
- Understand how to spark interest in your work by succinct and effective presentations
- Gain information on useful resources to help market yourself successfully.

It would be useful to bring your smartphone or other devices if you currently use them for social media. This will allow you to refer to live examples if needed.

You will be taught using a range of techniques including workshops, short lectures, demonstrations, practical exercises, group and individual assistance. Please note the City Lit uses Apple Mac computers in Animation, Digital arts, Information from the course will also be available afterwards either via handouts or digitally.

- Social media: what’s out there and how it can help you? This course will focus on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
- Social media strategies and available marketing resources
- Choosing social media platforms and related terminology
- How to build, manage and get the most out of followers, testimonials and recommendations
- Tricks of the trade and what to avoid
- Balancing offline and online communication
- Instagram meetups/takeovers, competitions, press coverage, talks & workshops
- Networking in person, including body language, 90 second elevator pitches and role play.

Additional information

Potential courses to follow and develop your learning and skills: Focusing on looking at and developing your own social media inside a future workshop including live use of social media platforms and management tools such as Hootsuite. Elevator pitches and networking in person will be looked at briefly in this initial workshop. You may want to spend more time developing and practicing this in a more involved workshop with more opportunities for role play. Photography and creative natural copywriting are both keep elements of promoting yourself and networking. Combining the two cleverly can gain much greater results. There is potential for a deeper workshop looking at developing your photography and creative writing skills to enhance your ability to network and promote.
