What will I study?
This course has a strong theoretical base but is closely linked to situations which are experienced in the care sector. Care has a set of underpinning principles and each care role has a code of ethics/practice. Much of the course will be linked to practical experience from vocational placements.

Duration:
Two years

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
Placement will be an essential part of this course. There will be a minimum of 20 days, however we are anticipating that the number of days will be higher than this. You will be placed in at least two work placement settings.

How will I be assessed?
There are six units in the Principal Learning. Two units are assessed by external exams. The other four are assessed by written assignments. The PLTS will be embedded within the Principal Learning assignments.

What can I do afterwards?
The majority of students from Care courses go on to university courses. The two most popular destinations are nursing (either at diploma or degree Level 1) and Early Years Education (three to eight years). Other university courses students have progressed on to include social work, childhood studies, midwifery and occupational therapy. The most common destination for those seeking employment at 18 has been the care sector with NVQ training. Although the main focus of the course is employment in the care sector, other students have found work in more varied fields.

Are there any additional costs involved?
There will be an initial cost to cover the CRB check and a course text book. This will be approximately £65.
