About this course

Deduce the 'sense' of what is being said in a piece of Shakespeare text.
Recognise iambic pentameter and the devices Shakespeare uses to underline and heighten his meaning.
Explain the plot, themes and characters of two specific plays.
Perform scene work from a Shakespeare play with confidence.

An individual copy of the plays chosen for analysis and scene presentation. The tutor will provide some photocopies of other relevant text.

Course programme

Working specific Shakespearean texts for sense, rhythm, imagery, emotion and character.
We will study two plays and act out some scenes from each.

Group work; pair and individual work in which different pieces are examined and worked on. You will need to read the selected plays as homework and do some home preparation for your final duologue or monologue class presentation. HEALTH CHECK You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner. As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.
