Minimum requirements  2:2 Bachelor’s degree with 2:2 honours or a professional qualification in Radiography, Nursing, Midwifery or Medicine. Applicants must have a suitable clinical training placement for the duration of the programme.

NOTE: This programme is only available to overseas applicants who already have a suitable UK/EU clinical placement and are holding a valid work visa that covers them for the entire duration of the programme. Overseas applicants who do not meet the above criteria are not eligible for this programme due to UKBA restrictions on overseas applicants studying part-time course in the UK.

Application procedure

Applications must be made online using King’s online application portal apply.kcl.ac.uk and a non-refundable application fee of £60 applies.

Your application will be assessed by two academics. All applicants who fulfil the entry requirements are interviewed. We aim to respond to all applications within six weeks. However, during the months prior to the closing date, and over holiday periods, applications may take longer to process due to the volume received at this time.

You will be asked to submit the following documents in order for your application to be considered:

Personal Statement Yes A personal statement of up to 4,000 characters (maximum 2 pages) is required. The personal statement should include the area of proficiency the student wishes to study and give details of scanning time and mentorship offered at their place of work.

Course programme

Course detail Description

The Specialist Ultrasound Practice PG Cert is a part-time study course that consists of two required modules. You will complete the course within nine months, studying January to September. You will study Fundamentals of Ultrasound as well as Negotiated Learning with Clinical Proficiency in Medical Ultrasound modules.

It is possible to study The Negotiated Learning module as a standalone module if you are a qualified sonographer and wish to gain academic credits in a proficiency-based topic that will advance your practice. Alternatively, you may study the Negotiated Learning with Clinical Proficiency and Fundamentals of Ultrasound modules to gain a CASE accredited PG Certificate and subsequently, add further modules to achieve the PG Diploma or MSc in Medical Ultrasound.

Location

The course is primarily taught at the King’s College London St Thomas’, Waterloo and Guy’s Campuses. Please note that locations are determined by where each module is taught and may vary depending on the optional modules you select.

132 hours in total on a block release pattern

Minimum 21 hours per week of supervised scanning for all clinical pathways throughout the course.
