This course provides you with a balance of both academic and practical units. The aim of the Access to Sports Studies pathway is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and fundamental understanding of sport to enable you to successfully advance through to university level study the following year. You will study topics like Skeletal & Muscular Systems, Energy Systems, Coaching & Fitness, Exercise, Health & Lifestyle and Nutrition for Sport.

Course programme
Entry Requirements
You should have GCSE subject passes in PE, science, English and maths, however mature students without formal qualifications are encouraged to apply. Life experience outside of formal education are taken into account as are the commitment to study and the desire to follow a career in the sports sector. Applicants need to be 19 years old or over.
Delivery and Assessment
This course is assessed by a combination of coursework and examinations. Coursework may involve essays, presentations, reports, discussions and a portfolio of evidence.
Progression
Students on this programme successfully progress each year to a range of sport related degree programmes. Popular local destinations are Birmingham City University; the University of Wolverhampton and Birmingham University. Birmingham Metropolitan College also deliver Higher Education courses - including Foundation Degree in Sport & Exercise Science - This is a collaborative degree programme in association with the University of Wolverhampton.
