About this course
This is a level 2 qualification. Working in the Fitness industry verbal communication with the customers is very important, as is the ability to read notes and written instructions concerning fitness regimes and health and saftey. Therefore learners should be already be able to follow verbal and written instructions, express ideas clearly in writing, through writing lists and short pieces of text and be able to pick out essential information from a variety of texts (including websites and handouts). They should be prepared to discuss ideas in small groups during the course. If you have difficulty in expressing yourself in spoken or written English then we may be able to recommend you to our ESOL or adult literacy courses.

CYQ Gym Instructor Level 2
Course Content:
This is a course for anyone who is considering employment within the fitness industry and who wants to work as a gym based fitness instructor. You will cover everything from exercise and fitness knowledge to a range of teaching skills. The course covers: 1.Exercise and fitness knowledge covering: a. bones and joints b. muscles and muscle actions c. cardiovascular and respiratory components of fitness d. principles of training 2. How to plan and teach safe and effective exercise sessions 3. The principles of training 4. How to adapt exercise to suit varied fitness levels 5. How to use a range of teaching skills 6. The body's systems and its response to exercise 7. Health and safety factors 8. How to motivate and support clients The programme is assessed via internal worksheets, a practical exam and an external theory paper. Successful candidates will be CYQ qualified Fitness Instructors.
All materials are supplied for the course. Students should bring a folder for their work and a pen. For practical sessions you will need gym clothes and appropriate footwear. Excellent shower facilities are available.
Progression:
You might like to continue to study onto a Level 3 evening course starting in 2010-11, or you might consider becoming a full time student on one of our Level 2 Btec First Diploma in Sport or our Level 3 Btec National Certificate in Sport starting in September 2010
