Aim
This 2 year course is both practical and theory based course giving you a broad understanding of sports development and fitness. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Content
This qualification is made up of 18 units. 9 units are covered each year. Some of the subjects you will cover are:
· Sports and society
· Health and safety in sport
· Practical sports study
· Individual sports study
· Sports coaching
· Sports development
· Fitness testing for sport
· Body in action
· Exercise for specific groups
· Training and fitness
· Working with children.
There are opportunities to take part in a variety of excursions and pursuits and will also achieve additional qualifications such as CSLA, HSLA and level 1 and 2 gym.
All units are assessed, graded either a pass, merit or distinction and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded.

Progression/career opportunities
This qualification is equivalent to 3 A levels and is recognised by employers or as progression to Higher Education. You could progress on to the Foundation Degree in Sports Development here at the College.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
