NVQ 3 in Instructing Physical Activity & Exercise (C2800P)

What will I Learn?
Learners will undertake five Mandatory Units and four Optional Units.

The Mandatory Units are:

• Collect and Analyse Information to Plan a Progressive Physical Activity Programme
• Plan, Review and Adapt a Progressive Physical Activity Programme
• Plan and Instruct Specific Physical Activities
• Provide Motivation and Support to Clients during a Physical Activity Programme
• Manage, Evaluate and Improve Own Performance in Providing Physical Activity

How will I Learn?
Learning will take place involving classroom based theoretical work and practical sessions at the Kingsway Fitness Suite and other practical venues.

How will I be Assessed?
Assessments of practical sessions will allow learners to demonstrate their competence in coaching, teaching and instructing. A portfolio containing all evidence of competence and knowledge is required to support this.

What Enrichments are Available?
Higher Sports Leaders Award Level 3, Sports Enrichment, National Pool Lifeguard.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
Yes. In previous years learners have been on organised trips to Doncaster Dome, Ponds Forge (Sheffield) and to PGL (an outdoor pursuits centre) where they have had the chance to try climbing, abseiling, kayaking, raft building and high ropes.

Is there any Work Experience?
Yes. Mandatory block work placements are required to obtain evidence of coaching, teaching and instructing experience.

What can I Progress to?
Successful completion of this course can lead to progression onto a Foundation Degree in Sport, NVQ 4 in Sport and Recreation or employment in the industry itself in Sports Development, Sport and Recreation or Sports Coaching.

Other Learner's Experiences:
In previous years learners have taken it upon themselves to enrich their studies by planning and organising a wide range of sporting events. Learners have also had access to the NGB Awards.
