BTEC First Certificate
Introduction
This course is equivalent to two GCSE qualifications
Course Content
You take three specialist units from the following list: You must take one of the two units below:

• The Body in Sport
  
• Health, Safety and Injury in Sport

Then two of the five units

• The Sports Industry
  
• Preparation for Sport
  
• Planning and Leading Sports Activities
  
• Practical Sport*
  
• Practical Outdoor and Adventurous Activities*

Duration
The course duration is 5 hours per week, and will last for one year.
Assessment
The programme is assessed continuously via coursework in most units. A range of assessment methods are used including practical sports, written reports, work experience and investigations.
There is a strong student centered approach to the course where all students are encouraged to develop the confidence to learn independently.
Progression
With further training or study, students go into careers in:

• Sports Centres
  
• Leisure Centres
  
• Outdoor Activities Centres

A BTEC First Certificate prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as:
BTEC National Diploma, Certificate or Award in Sport (Outdoor Education)
BTEC National Diploma, Certificate or Award in Sport (Performance and Excellence)
BTEC National Diploma, Certificate or Award in Sport (Sports Development and Fitness)
