BTEC First Diploma Sport
(Exercise and Fitness)

WHY TAKE A BTEC FIRST DIPLOMA IN SPORT?
An exciting and challenging course which allows you to achieve the equivalent of four GCSEs graded at C or above. Taught within the fantastic sports facilities, which include a sports hall, physiology laboratory and specialised classrooms, you will enjoy classroom activities, practical sessions and a variety of assessment methods.

WHAT ARE THE KEY AREAS OF STUDY?
The course includes six units of work which allow you to investigate many issues within sport. The following are a selection of these;
The Body in Sport:- "A healthy body is an amazing piece of machinery which allows us to go from total rest to all out sprinting in a matter of seconds." How?
Practical Sport:- "Participation in sports activities continues to grow, as people become more aware of the benefits of an active lifestyle." - Learn to play, officiate and analyse performance. Preparation for Sport - "Failing to prepare equals preparing to fail" - How to prepare to help ensure you succeed.
Planning and Leading activities:- provides the first steps into leadership and sports coaching as participation in planning and leading sports activities is increasing.

WHAT SKILLS WILL I NEED AND DEVELOP?
You will be encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning and work independently. Good organisational and time management skills are needed to achieve success. Key Skills will also be integrated into your programme.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will complete the six units through different assessment methods including written work, oral presentations, posters, group tasks and practical performance. Each unit is then graded to pass, merit, distinction or distinction* standard. You should aim to gain at least a merit grade to progress onto the level 3 in sport.

PRIESTLEY EXTRA
Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to undertake a variety of sports coaching qualifications, sports leaders awards, residential experiences and a range of practical activities.
