About this course

You will be given an interview before you come on this course, and will need to demonstrate a good standard of playing ability in Rugby. For the BTEC First Diploma you will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, and for the BTEC National Diploma you will need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C and above, including English.

What is the course about?
This course will give you the opportunity to be involved in the coaching and training of the Widnes Vikings teams, benefit from the industry expertise of the people who work with the Vikings, and take up work placements at their stadium. These courses are supported by the Widnes Vikings, and you will be learning alongside some of their existing players. On this course you will learn about the practical and theoretical sides of rugby and the industry that surrounds the sport.

Students will be assessed through a variety of methods including presentations, taking coaching sessions and written assignments.

What opportunities will this lead to?
You could progress on to further qualifications in SPort including the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching at Riverside College offered in partnership with Edge Hill University. You can also enter the industry in professions such as coaching, teaching, sports development and training and fitness.
