This programme of study will enable you to learn about and apply theoretical and practical techniques to a range of sporting performers. This level 3 programme is an applied academic course. The assessments include completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

What you need to know
How will I study?

The course will be a mix of theory and practical studying. We try to teach the topics in the most practical way we can, but there will be times for theory to underpin the knowledge for practical situations. Year 1 of the course is made up of 10 units - 4 compulsory and 6 specialised. The specialist units enable you to study particular areas in-depth. The four core units are chosen from: Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, The Physiology of Fitness, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Testing, Exercise Health & Lifestyle. There are three specialised subjects from: Fitness Training, Sports Psychology, Sports Development, Nutrition, Outdoor Adventure. At the end of the 1st year you will have a choice of pathways to select from: Teaching & Coaching, Fitness and Industry & Adventure Sport
How will I be taught?

The course will be theory bases sessions delivered in the classroom and practical sports sessions. There is also a compulsory 2 week work experience module in the 2nd year.
How will I be assessed?

All units are assessed via coursework and an overall grade for the qualification awarded (Pass, Merit, Distinction criteria).
