About this course

You will need three GCSEs at grades A-D or Level 1 qualification at Merit level. Literacy and numeracy at Level 1. Work/life experience of mature students will be taken into consideration. A good reference is required.

What will I learn?
This course is suited to those interested in a career in the sport and leisure industries. You must have good Literacy and numeracy research skills. A strong interest in sport, sport science and the business of the sports industry is essential and will determine success on this course. It is made up of six units looking at a wide range of aspects of the sports industry. It is a practical work related course where you will learn by completing projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the employment area you have chosen, you will develop the skills you need to start a career in the industry. You will develop Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT. Practical sports are a required element of the course and will focus on sports such as swimming, badminton, hockey and outdoor pursuits.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by continuous portfolio work assignments. All units are internally assess and moderated and then externally checked by a visiting moderator from OCR. All assignments require research and written portfolios, some also require practical demonstration or sporting skills.

What could I do next?
You could progress to the BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Development and Fitness) or other Level 3 courses. Employment or training courses in the sport and leisure industries.
