Course Content:
The 12-unit BTEC National Certificate provides a specialist work-related programme of study that covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the sector and also offers different emphasis through the choice of specialist units. It is broadly equivalent to two GCEs. The qualification offers an engaging programme for 16-19 year olds who are clear about the area of employment that they wish to enter. Such learners may wish to extend their programme through the study of a related GCE or other qualification.
The BTEC National Certificate in Sport is a 12-unit qualification that consists of four core units plus eight specialist units chosen from the list available for each endorsed title. BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Performance and Excellence) The BTEC National Certificate in Sport (Performance and Excellence) consists of eight core units and four specialist units from Group B.

Students will be required to undertake a two week placement in May / June.
Teaching Learning Methods:
Students will be required to produce 12 portfolios. Two will be externally assessed.
Key Skills:
All students are given the opportunity to develop key skills for which they receive full accreditation. These key skills relate to the following areas:

Assessment:
In the BTEC National Award, Certificate and Diploma in Sport, Unit 1: The Body in Action and Unit 2: Health & Safety in Sport will be assessed through an externally set assignment. Assignment (IVA) set by Edexcel and externally verified by an appointed external verifier. The IVA assessed unit in the Certificate and Diploma will therefore receive 4 (pass), 8 (merit) or 12 (distinction) points and each IVA assessed unit in the award will receive 2 (pass), 4 (merit) or 6 (distinction) points. 100% Coursework. 8 core topics 2 externally set.
Skills & Commitment:
Students are expected to take part in the College teams.
Cost:
Students will be required to purchase a text book and college kit. Students will have the opportunity to take part in an outdoor activities weekend.
Progression:
The BTEC National Certificates in Sport provide the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for success in current and future employment, or for progression to higher-level courses, such as BTEC Higher Nationals or Degrees.
Students can access the BTEC National Diploma having achieved appropriate qualifications. Students can progress to university or a career in the leisure industry.
