Course programme
What Will I Learn
Years 1 and 2 are common to all the sport-related degree programmes and incorporate contemporary sports policy and practice, business management and practical skills. Years three and four allow you to investigate subjects such as sports development, event management, sports coaching, performance enhancement, sociology, psychology, and health.
How Will I Learn
The course emphasises the application of theoretical concepts to real life situations within the sport and recreation industry, and employs a range of teaching and learning methods. Traditional classroom based sessions are supplemented by activities such as practical sessions, group work, industry visits, case studies, work placements and study tours.
Honours Projects
In your fourth year you will undertake your own research project in a subject which interests you, drawing together all that you have learnt on your course.
Topics covered are varied: recent Honours Projects have included a case study on the development of two sports in Estonia: skiing in a rural setting and surfing in an urban setting, an evaluation of the Physical Education provision in East Ayrshire Secondary Schools: The Teacher’s perspective and the provision of Sport science used in Scottish Pro Youth football
