Course Overview
The number of graduates entering the golfing industry, and looking for careers other than as a professional golfer is increasing. More and more potential employers are looking towards vocational expertise and experience to compliment academic qualifications.
Our course is specifically designed to address this issue with the third year of the course being spent on an industrial placement in the golfing industry. This placement will give you the opportunity to gain the industrial experience and relevant golfing and sporting skills that employers are seeking from today's graduates.
The major limitation with the small number of degree courses currently offering golf-based studies is their concentration on either pure greenkeeping or the role of the professional golfer, neither focus upon the employment opportunities available upon graduation in the areas of golf club management. This degree was developed after extensive consultation with industry and concentrates upon golf club management and business management, the areas identified by industry as those requiring well-qualified graduates.
The structure of the course was developed following discussion with specific organisations including the English Golf Union, the Professional Golfers Association, the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St.Andrews, the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association and the Dorset County Golf Union.
As well as the Industrial Placement, our students also experience Golf Practicum in Level C and Applied Leisure Research in Level H during which they develop their skills in sports management environments. Our students, therefore, graduate with an academic degree, a range of specific vocational experiences and the key personal skills required to excel in employment.
