The aim of the course is to provide an insight into the musical influence that Russia had in the creation of a Finnish national music. NOTE: break week, no class session on Friday, 22nd February.

The course will explore the ideas - both musical, cultural and political - that inspired the creation of a new Finnish sound, by focusing on the early music of Jean Sibelius.
