This course is for both beginners and the more experienced student, aiming to help students overcome what can be the intimidating process of tackling drawing portraits. The course starts with a series of simple drawing exercises which become progressively more challenging.

Course programme

As well as looking at the technical aspects of drawing i.e. how to measure, how to see and understand tonal difference, how to get a likeness, students will also explore the expressive possibilities within drawing the portrait.

The course is structured and students will be shown practical demonstrations, examples of artist’s work, one to one tuition and group discussions. All drawing materials are provided. After this course you will be able to join any of the City Lit portrait painting or drawing classes as well as the life classes such as Portraits 1 and Life Drawing.
