Course Overview
This course is learner centred, offering the learner's pathways to employment.

Learners will have the opportunity to be involved in a mini enterprise. Providing a gardening service in the community.

Course Structure
Learners will be taught in groups of 8-10 with one support staff to a class. Each learner has an individual learning plan

The course will run for 2 years. Subjects taught will include:
  • ICT/functional skills
  • Personal development/tutorial
  • Work related studies
  • 1 days work placement per week
  • Travel training
  • Residential related to the work being carried out on the course.


Gardening topics will include

  • Planting bulbs
  • Seed sowing/pricking out
  • Creating seasonal shows (hanging baskets)
  • Miniature herb gardens
  • Allotment vegetables
  • Weeding planted areas
  • Woodland wildlife gardens
  • Garden designs

  • Mini enterprise gardening maintenance



Taught hours 12 1/2 hours per week plus 1 day work placement

Qualification Aims
The learners work towards achieving a qualification through individual targets at Entry 2 or 3.

Assessments/Examinations
Continuous assessments and review throughout the course, following the requirements of the accreditation

Cost / Equipment
Tuition is free to learners who are under 25 years at the start of the course. Learners who are in receipt of income support are requested to provide this evidence. There will be costs for accreditation/certification

Equipment Required

Overalls, boots and gloves.
