Course programme

Classes run on Wednesday evenings from 3.30 till 8.30 on a drop-in basis. Students pay for twenty hours of tuition and are free to drop in for as many or few hours as required, when required. Most students stay for around two hours.

Courses run continually throughout the year so you can start when ready.

This course will teach you the skills you will need to create a stone sculpture. Jamie will begin with the basics, such as how to use and look after the carving tools. You will then go on to create your own sculpture, learning different techniques and methods as you go.

You can choose what type of sculpture you would like to make and Jamie will help you develop your ideas for your final piece.

You will have your own bench to work from at each class and access to all the different tools you will need. The stone you will use for your sculpture is also provided as part of the course. This is limestone or sandstone but arrangements can be made for another material to be used.

Jamie is always at hand to guide you and advise you with your sculpture; and you will be able to discuss your piece with other members of the group as well.

The atmosphere in the class is sociable and relaxed. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided to help sustain your creativity!

Stone carving requires patience and a controlled approach but is extremely rewarding and often very relaxing.
