Participants will learn how to construct light using continuous lighting, studio flash and portable flash.

Course structure

The sessions will be practical, giving students first hand experience at using and becoming proficient at operating the studio.

Students will learn how to:

  • operate studio flashes, continuous lights and mobile flash
  • construct different lighting set ups for portraiture and still life
  • mix flash with daylight - 'synchro-sun'
  • mix different lighting temperatures
  • experimenting with flash and movement
  • design studio lighting for different moods
  • explore the different quality of lighting accessories
  • measure light and understand the effects of exposure
  • understand reflected and incident light
  • understand colour temperature
