Programme Summary
The Supporting Teaching and Learning NVQ Level 2 is a nationally recognised and flexible work based qualification aimed at those working with teachers in classrooms supporting the learning process in primary, secondary and specialist schools. The programme is available at two levels and is aimed at those in a general support role and also those with a specific responsibility for a pupil, subject area or age group.
Programme objectives are personalised according to individual needs with day to day work tasks providing opportunities for recognition for those candidates demonstrating their ability to reach the standards required in their chosen area and level.
Start Date
On demand and in the workplace to suit employer and employee needs.
Programme Content
The programme is unit based and candidates must complete seven units in total to successfully complete the qualification. There are four mandatory units and candidates must choose an additional three units from five available optional units.
Mandatory Units
• Help with classroom resources and records
• Help with the care and support of students
• Provide support for learning activities
• Provide effective support for your colleagues
Optional Units
• Support literacy and numeracy activities in the classroom
• Contribute to the management of pupil behaviour
• Support the maintenance of pupil safety and security
• Contribute to the health and well-being of pupils
• Support the use of ICT in the classroom
Assessment Process
Each unit is assessed through the observation and questioning of normal activities within the workplace and the development of a portfolio within which learners collect electronic, paper and witness statement evidence that they have covered the skills/knowledge required for the unit. Learners are also required to create reflective accounts of their work for inclusion in the portfolio.
Learners who do not complete the whole qualification can gain certification for those units they have successfully achieved.
Length of Programme
We support learners and set standards to enable participants to achieve targets and personal goals at an agreed pace. All learners are supported by a dedicated uke learning assessor who provides advice, guidance and support in the workplace throughout the duration of the programme.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements for the NVQ although candidates should already be working in the classroom environment. Personal qualities of enthusiasm and commitment are more important than qualifications, although a reasonable standard in written English and good communication skills are necessary. The uke learning assessor must also be confident that the learner is able to generate the evidence necessary to achieve the qualification.
