About this course

Course programme
The Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools has been developed for school support staff who directly support the teaching and schooling of pupils, either in a paid or voluntary capacity. It is a knowledge and competence based qualification which covers topics such as equality, diversity and inclusion; strategies to support learning, safeguarding and promoting positive behaviour.
On the start date there will be an initial interview and information session.
Course Content
Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Certificate Level 2 units of study include:
Candidates will complete a range of knowledge and competency based units accumulating 30 credits at Level 3.
- Child and Young Person Development
- Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People
- Communication and Professional Relationships with Children, Young People and Adults
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in Work with Children and Young People
- Help Improve Own and Team Practice in Schools
- Maintain and Support Relationships with Children and Young People
- Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety
- Support Children and Young People’s Positive Behaviour
- Support Learning Activities
A further 6 credits will be undertaken from a selection of optional units.
Entry Requirements
Candidates will be required to demonstrate that learning outcomes are achievable within the practice of their day to day work as a Learning Support Practitioner, and be able to produce written work of an appropriate standard (level 2).
Career Opportunities
Following successful completion of this course, further study at level 3 may be possible.
