2. Course description Through the examination of the role of the teaching assistant in primary schools, you will be encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of the issues currently affecting children's education.  You'll study the following subjects:  · study skills and current initiatives · personal development and professional practice · understanding and supporting literacy and numeracy skills · anti-discriminatory practice · assessment for learning · development and wellbeing · understanding and supporting science in the curriculum · safeguarding children – child protection · meeting individual needs · managing behaviour · working with parents and carers to support children · educational concepts · managing your professional role The course is a great opportunity to develop a number of transferable skills such as discussion, presentation, essay and report-writing, problem-solving, planning, assessment and team working.   It's also a great way to meet fellow experienced classroom assistants or teaching assistants and share examples of best practice.  If you're looking to progress your career from teaching assistant to fully qualified teacher, this foundation degree is a great step on the ladder, allowing you to consolidate your experience so far and move towards a full BA (Hons) degree, and qualified teacher status.

Entry requirements Normally you would be expected to have:  · a current and valid Level 3 Childcare/Early Years qualifications such as NNEB, DCE, BTEC Diploma or Extended Diploma, NVQ Level 3 ?· a minimum of two years' recent work experience in a relevant position in a school · preferably GCSEs in Maths and English at grade C or above, or have equivalent qualifications at Level 2, or be working towards them (if you wish to progress to teacher training you'll also need a science GCSE at grade C) You'll be invited to an interview and asked for suitable references. A statement of support and commitment from your employer/mentor stating that they will be able to meet the full range of roles and responsibilities in the workplace will also be needed. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5. Assessment method The course involves a variety of assessment methods such as reports, portfolios, timed tests and presentations. Each assessment will be related to your professional role.
