Introduction:
This course is ideal for those who have just started work, or want to gain experience working with children and young people aged 4 to 16 years, in a play setting.

Study Mode & Location:
This six week part-time course will last for 2.5 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR. This course is also available for delivery in the workplace depending on circumstances.

Course Content:
This course provides information on:

  • Children`s play and the responsibilities of a playworker.
  • How to build relationships with children.
  • How to keep children safe.


You will need to carry out 10 hours of playwork practice in a play setting, and keep a short diary.

Assessment:
Assessment involves:

  • Evidence of a satisfactory 10 hour playwork practice.
  • Active participation in 80% of sessions.
  • Completion of a health and safety task.


Careers & Progression Opportunities:
For those interested in gaining a full qualification this course links well with the NVQ Level 2 in Playwork.

Costs:
This course is currently subsidised by Sure Start Early Years & Childcare Service. Tuition fees will therefore be substantially reduced (to £15).

You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.
Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible. Following interview, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.
