Taxi Driver VRQ

A Taxi Drivers job isn't just about driving the vehicle, although an essential part, those in the trade need to have the right skills to avoid risks, approach a wide range of issues with confidence and understanding, and provide an excellent standard of customer service.

This course will cover the following units:

• Health and safety in the taxi and private hire work environment: Gain an understanding of health and safety in the work environment of the taxi and private hire driver. You will learn how to meet the duty of care towards customers following a vehicle breakdown or other incidents.

• Road safety when driving passengers in a taxi or private hire vehicle: You will develop a strong understanding of factors that can affect a driver's judgement and concentration and identify how driving styles can affect safety, vehicle efficiency, the environment and customer comfort.

• Professional customer service in the taxi and private hire industry: Taxi drivers have a duty to ensure that they provide the highest level of professional customer service. This unit illustrates the importance of providing a professional service in a competitive transport market.

• Taxi and private hire vehicle maintenance and safety inspections: Understand how to maintain a taxi or private hire vehicle to a legal standard for the safe transport of fare-paying passengers.

• The regulatory framework of the taxi and private hire industry: The taxi and private hire industry is highly regulated; and safety and security of customers is paramount. You will understand why drivers, vehicles and operators are required to be licensed; the types of licenses available; how to apply for a license and the requirements needed to hold and retain a license to drive and work within the industry.

• Taxi and private hire services for passengers who require assistance: Understand the importance for Taxi Drivers to be mindful of passengers who may need extra help, how to best provide that extra help, and the legislation and training in place to help ensure they get it.

• Routes and fares in the taxi and private hire vehicle industries: Providing a safe, legal, effective and profitable service as a taxi or private hire driver you will need to know how to map read and navigate; the rules, restrictions and safety measures for picking up passengers; and how to accurately charge for services.

• Transporting of parcels, luggage and other items in the taxi and private hire industries: Understand how to transport parcels, luggage and other items and the regulations that drivers need to follow when transporting.

• Transporting of children and young persons by taxi or private hire vehicle: you will learn the standards for vehicles, vehicle safety and vehicle checking also looking at the seat belt law and the driver's responsibilities in relation to children's age and height.
