This programme has a large number of optional modules showcasing staff expertise and offering cutting edge input in a variety of sub-fields within TESOL. Students can choose flexibly from 20 CATS and 10 CATS optional modules allowing them to achieve the required credits to successfully complete the award. At a research led institution, optional module lists are subject to change each year to keep the student learning experience current. For the optional modules available in this department please visit the department website.
Teaching:
Each programme is taught by a combination of lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials. In addition, inexperienced teachers will have the opportunity to conduct peer-teaching and use this experience to deepen theoretical and practical understanding. In all programmes, importance is placed on research-led teaching and developing students’ understanding of research principles and methods, as well as the ability to consider the relationship between research and practice. All students will have to take a module on research methodology, write a research proposal and complete a dissertation with the support of a supervisor.
The MA TESOL is organised on a modular basis and can be completed in full-time or part-time mode. Students taking the full-time mode must complete within one academic year, beginning in October. Part-time students can complete the work over several years, up to a maximum of four years.
Assessment:
Programmes within the department of Applied Linguistics are assessed through a variety of methods depending on the module choices you make.
