Who is this course for?

Students interested in Graphics. This course has been developed to equip students interested in pursuing a career in the visual arts with the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to progress to degree level study in Graphics or into employment. The course was intentionally designed to cultivate conditions where your interest in the visual arts can be explored, developed and your creativity tested; while remaining stimulating, demanding and supportive, it will help you in the transition from further to higher education and employment

What qualifications or experience do I need ?

* 5 GCSE's grade A* - C preferably including English, Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and/or English Or Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design (Distinction or Merit) Or Level 2 Diploma in another relevant subject area (Distinction or Merit)

What will I study ?

Course Structure: Term one is an exploratory stage where you will be introduced to a range of specialist workshops to help you choose a subject area and industry future specialism. These include graphics, photography, fashion & textile design, sculpture, painting, drawing and print. Term 2 is the pathway stage where you explore your chosen specialism Graphics in greater detail. Term 3 is the confirmatory stage where you complete a Final Major Project in Graphics; you will write and direct your own project using the knowledge and skills you have acquired during the course. By the end of the first year you will have the relevant skills required to specialise in your chosen subject area and progress on to the Level 3 UAL Extended Art & Design - Graphics course.

How will I be assessed ?

Assessment is formative and coursework is assessed throughout the year.

What qualifications could I achieve ?

In year 1 of the course you will gain a UAL Level 3 Diploma in Art & Design. On completion of the 2 year programme you will gain a full UAL: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (Progression onto year 2 is subject on successful completion of the diploma, attendance & punctuality)

How do I join the course ?

Complete and return either an online or paper application form to admissions for an interview to be arranged. You will also need to obtain a reference from a previous teacher or tutor.

Will I need an interview ?

Yes - An interview and examples of your work, including a written piece.

Any extra costs for equipment/materials ?

Many materials will be provided but it is advisable to invest in a range of art and design related equipment and materials so that you can continue your work outside of the studios.

Further Information

Students may need to study Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths as part of their programme
