About this course

Applicants are selected for this programme via an interview and assessment process. At interview, the applicant will need to demonstrate an ability to achieve at GCSE level and have a clear enthuthiasm for this area of work. Preferred applicants will have a minimum of GCSE Maths and English at grade D/E.

Who is the programme for? This programme develops manual skills and technical knowledge in the area of vehicle electrical and electronic systems, it is the basis for anyone wishing to develop their career as an automotive electrical/electronics technician.

What will I study? A number of units will be studied, including: *Working safely and effectively during vehicle electrical maintenance and repair *Foundation skills for vehicle electrical maintenance and repair *Operating principles and basic checks on vehicle mechanical components *Operating principles and basic checks on vehicle start / charge systems *Operating principles and basic checks on vehicle engine electrical systems *Operating principles and basic checks on vehicle external lighting systems The above units are delivered using a combination of classroom and workshop sessions, self-study sessions and ICT based learning.

Entry to the Programme?

How is it assessed? Learners are required to demonstrate competence via a series of workshop practical tasks, assignment work, multiple-choice tests and external tests carried out using the internet.

Future prospects? Achievement at this level will enable you to progress onto the Technical Certificate at Level 2. Further study may also allow you to attain the necessary academic standards required for Higher Education which could lead to supervisoy and managerial qualifications, this in turn allowing progression to professional status within the Motor Industry.

When will the programme start? The programme will start in September 2009..

How long will it take? This programme is full time and will run for one academic year.

What about the Money? If you are under 19 on 31 August 2009 you will not have to pay tuition or registration fees. If you are over 19 years of age

How do I apply? Complete an application form and return it to Student Services, you will then be asked to attend College for an interview.
