Level 2 Technical Certificate or relevant industry experience.

  • Minimum Literacy Level: Level 2

  • Minimum Numeracy Level: Level 2

  • Interpret information: You can read and understand tables, charts, graphs and diagrams; read and understand numbers used in different ways; estimate amounts and proportions; make accurate observations and select appropriate methods to get the results you need. Carry out calculations: You can carry out calculations involving two or more steps, with numbers of any size, with and without a calculator; work with and convert between fractions, decimals and percentages; convert measurements between systems (e.g. pounds to kilograms); work out areas and volumes; work out dimensions from scale drawings; use proportions and calculate ratios where appropriate; compare sets of data of an appropriate size and use range to describe the spread within sets of data.


What qualification will I receive?
Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 - Light Vehicle Technician, or Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 3 - Heavy Vehicle Technician.

Where can it lead?
Successful completion can lead to studying a BTEC Higher National qualification.

What will I study?
Subjects you will study include how to diagnose complex faults and rectify complex faults. The course also covers routine servicing, vehicle inspection, working relationships, health and safety and good housekeeping.

How will I be taught?
Formal lessons, Knowledge Assignments and Practical work. Up to two days or two evenings a week for one year. Willesden Centre. (One day part time)

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through practical qualifying tasks, phase tests and on-line assessments and portfolio completion.

What support is available while I am on the course?
You will have access to a personal tutor to help you throughout the course. The college offers a comprehensive range of student services including learning support, language support and guidance.
