Course Content: The course is aimed at individuals who want an introduction to programming using the industry-standard programming language Visual Basic 2008 (Visual Basic.NET). Students may wish to start Visual Basic programming in order to pursue a leisure interest, to carry out a project associated with their employment, or to further their career.
Each week a number of programming topics are covered and practical exercises set to demonstrate the theory behind them. Topics to be covered include:
· Introduction to Visual Studio 2008
· Purpose of VB IDE files: EXE, VB, VBPROJ & SLN and VB IDE windows: code, debug, form etc.
· Creating forms and controls using standard toolbox items e.g. textbox, button, checkbox, picture box
· Use of arithmetic / logical operators
· Program control (using sequence, selection & iteration statements)
· File handling
· Multiple event handling
· Debugging
· Deploying programs / creating an EXE file
Special Features: · Resources folder containing all relevant handouts and demo programs written by college staff, supplied on CD given out at start of course
· Visual Basic 2008 Express text book with VB 2008 Express software CD given at start of course
· College certificate on successful completion of the course
Course Format: The course will run in the evenings for 2 hours per week. Wednesday - 6.00pm 8.00pm.
Progression: On successful completion of the course students will be able to undertake the Advanced (Level 3) course in Visual Basic.NET programming.
