Weekend Hairdressing Diploma - Level 2

3 Weekends per month over 1 Year

Seven Mandatory Units to be completed.

  • Ensure your own actions reduce risks to Health & Safety
  • Give clients a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
  • Advice and consult with clients
  • Cut hair
  • Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
  • Style, dress and finish hair using basic techniques
  • Change hair colour using different techniques

Plus Either:

  • Perm and neutralise hair using basic techniques
  • Perm, relax and neutralise hair
  • Perm, relax and neutralise African Caribbean hair

Plus one of the following optional units:

  • Fulfil salon reception
  • Promote additional products or services to clients
  • Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work
  • Style hair using basic plaiting techniques and added hair
  • Provide scalp massage services

Assessment: Practical tasks will be performed and assessed by a tutor. Portfolio building and project work is also required.

Whats the work Like?

As a qualified hairdresser your work would include:

  • discussing with the client how they want their hair done, giving advice and suggesting ideas for suitable styles
  • shampooing and conditioning
  • cutting and styling
  • colouring, perming or straightening
  • advising on minor hair and scalp problems
  • making appointments and handling payments
  • ordering materials
  • making sure that hair products containing chemicals are used and stored correctly.
    What Kind of work may this lead to?

    You could work as a haidresser in salons throughout the UK. You could also find opportunities in a number of other places, such as hotels, hospitals and care homes, cruise liners and armed forces bases.

    Alternatively, you could offer a mobile service, travelling to clients' homes, rather than working in a salon.

    With experience you could progress to jobs such as senior stylist or salon manager

    By taking the appropriate further qualifications, you could move into teaching and/or NVQ assessing.

    Other options include wig making, training in make-up techniques, and working in the television or film
