You can read and understand short pieces of writing such as letters, messages, simple stories, timetables and adverts. You can write short pieces of writing - for example an email to a friend, a simple letter, a story or a message.
You can work with numbers, symbols, and simple diagrams. You can add and subtract simple numbers and use simple fractions. You can use money, tell the time, measure things and know about squares, triangles and rectangles.
What qualification will I receive?
You will receive a City & Guilds 3268 introductory welding certificate in Manual Metal Arc Welding
Where can it lead?
You can continue to study for a level 2 welding course.
What will I study?
Subjects you will study include manual metal arc welding, arc welding safety, set-up of equipment, joint techniques and inspection procedures. You will attend this course to gain skills for either industrial or non industrial fields such as manufacturing, structural steelwork, heating and ventilation, pipe fitting, maintenance engineering, construction, vehicle restoration, classic car, welding for artists, metal sculpture, art, design, arts and crafts.
You can select from any of the following process: oxy-acetylene welding, metal arc gas shielded welding mags, tungsten arc gas shielded welding tags, progress onto coded welding.
The welding codes available are, British Standard Welding Codes European Welding Codes American Welding Codes ASME.
How will I be taught?
You will attend practical welding classes and theory sessions.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by practical tests and an oral examination.
What support is available while I am on the course?
You will be allocated a personal tutor. The college's extensive learning resources are available to all students.
