Course programme

This is a classroom based interactive course taught by a member of BASC with written multi-choice papers. It is certificated through Lantra Awards and leads to a Level 2 Vocational Qualification Certificate. Anyone supplying game meat into the food chain must be certificated.

Areas covered include:
• Safe handling of firearms
• Safe handling of game meat - covering game birds and large game
• Recognition of disease/unusual behaviour in the live bird/animal and when
cleaning/gruloching.
• Disposal of waste material
• Disposal of game meat to game dealers
• Safe storage of game
• Cleaning and care of knives and other implements used


There is a 3 paper multi-choice test at the end of the course

  • Paper 1 General Game Meat Handling
  • Paper 2 Large Game Handling
  • Paper 3 Small Game Handling

All candidates take paper one and can choose either or both of the other papers according to need.
