The course is about how to identify and support perinatal ill health. The course also explores the barriers to women getting the right help including stigma and lack of understanding, and how these barriers can be overcome. We will explore how friends, families, partners and those in professional roles can take action to support women experiencing mental health difficulties in the perinatal period.

About this course
• Describe different sorts of perinatal illness by identifying signs and symptoms• Identify additional risk factors that may contribute to perinatal ill health• Identify the professionals and agencies that can help women experiencing perinatal mental ill health.• Describe how we can support those experiencing perinatal mental ill health• Identify mental health needs common to new fathers and how we can support them.
The class will be taught using media articles, first hand accounts, quizzes, videos and group activities.
