Working with Suicide & Self Harm

Problematic alcohol and drug use is acknowledged as a common contributory factor in attempted suicide (including self harm). Many of us will come across this in our everyday work but it is always anxiety provoking.

The objectives of this session are for participants to:

Consider own attitudes and emotional reaction to suicide and self-harm
Recognise signs of suicidal / self harming intent
Consider when breaking confidentiality might be appropriate
Practice applying a range of strategies for dealing with suicidal and self harming clients
