Course programme

Course review:

The messages you put out to your customers, staff and suppliers are crucial in helping to build your organisation’s reputation. This interactive workshop focuses on improving journalistic know-how and increasing confidence and fluency in writing skills for corporate magazines and newsletters. What kind of image are you presenting through your publication? Does it reflect a professional, lively organisation, committed and enthusiastic? Or could it be improved? This practical hands-on course is designed to inject confidence and writing skills into new writers, and to act as a refresher for the more experienced writer. Participants will be encouraged to take an objective look at their own publications and to develop their own appropriate writing style. The course is suitable for anyone involved in corporate communications who wants to develop better writing skills and more confidence - and who feels they may benefit from some journalistic tricks of the trade.

Key training areas:

- Identifying the story and recognising the difference between a news item and a feature - Writing with increased fluency and speed - Cultivating a flexible writing style that can be adapted to news and feature items - Research and structure your story - Transforming an overwhelming mass of information into crisp, concise copy that's interesting to read - Writing intros that grab attention - Creating eye catching headlines and captivating captions - Setting up an interview - and asking questions that trigger good quotes and anecdotes to bring your story to life - Producing high standard material that will raise the profile and popularity of your magazine or newsletter The course is presented by Judi Goodwin a freelance feature writer and an Approved Trainer for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. She has been a regular contributor to The Daily Telegraph, Manchester Evening News, the Liverpool Post and Echo and many consumer publications. For many years Judi ran feature writing courses for IPC Magazines and she is also a trainer for the National Union of Journalists. She brings a whole person approach to her training with an emphasis on coaching and creativity.
