Course Description:

This course is for anyone who wants to explore the short story form, both as a writer and a reader. You will learn how to tap into and generate material that's suitable for short fiction. You will develop your craft so that your stories say what you want them to and come alive for a reader. You will begin to distil your writing 'voice'. Newcomers to creative writing are welcome, although some experience of writing in any form will be helpful.

By the end of the course:

You should have ideas about where to look for inspiration and how to use what you find there as the basis for writing stories

You should have a working understanding of some of the special features of the short story form

You should have a working understanding of some of the building blocks of short fiction writing, both through writing yourself and from developing your critical responses as a reader

You should know how to access information regarding submission of your work for publication, if that's what you want.
