Level 3 qualifications (A Levels, National Diploma, ACCESS to Higher Education Certificate, Advanced Apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, Advanced Vocational Certificate in Education). Applicants will be interviewed. Mature students with relevant experience welcome. 120 UCAS Points.

How will I learn?

Your performance in each module will be assessed through a combination of coursework and end of module examination. You will be assessed through a variety of methods which may include essays, exams, portfolio work, presentations, case studies, work based learning, practical assessment and report writing. You will be given assessment criteria which are used to judge the extent of your achievement. There will be a strong practical element to the course and the majority of study will take place out of South Devon College's Marine Academy based at Noss on the Dart. Modules are introduced through briefings, discussions, practical workshops and seminars. Seminars and critiques encouraging group interaction, critical reflection, evaluation and presentation punctuate project work. The programme has varied assessments from coursework to presentations and requires independent study and research activities. Coursework is assessed at the end of every module and an indicative grade is given on all assignments. Progress reports are provided during tutorials.

What else might I want to know?

Successful candidates will also have the opportunity to gain the following additional RYA/MCA qualifications: Yachtmaster (offshore); or Yachtmaster (coastal) with Commercial Endorsement; Small Craft Radar; National Powerboat Level 2 Certificate; Diesel Engine maintenance Certificate;
Yatchmaster Theory;
VHF Operators Licence;
dinghy sailing qualifications.

What can I do afterwards?

You could progress to either the second year of a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree or 3rd year Watersports Science (Sport Development)at the University of Plymouth or go straight into employment including working in yacht charter companies, coastal adventure and guiding, yacht racing/competition, working in national centres (UKSA/Plas Menai), sailing schools or skippering yachts UK and overseas or outdoor watersports centres.
