Suitable for those whose work involves assisting young people with choices, goal-setting and decisions about their lives. It is suitable for a broad range of face-to-face workers such as Connexions workers, youth workers, secondary and tertiary teachers and support staff, social workers, foster carers, care staff, advice and guidance workers, mentors, befrienders, health workers, YOT workers.

The course covers:

  • choices, pressures and influences
  • choices and developing identity
  • models of change
  • styles of decision-making
  • strategies for assisting young people with choices and decision-making
  • involving young people in decisions that affect their lives
  • turning goals into action

Examples and activities will address both group and individual work. The course focuses on experiential activities and draws upon practice, research and theory. It will enable participants to reflect on their experience, share ideas and adapt strategies to their own professional context.

Cost
The fees include all costs including travel and standard materials (each course has a full pack of handouts). They do not cover trainers' overnight accommodation (if required) or the cost of training packs that Young People in Focus sells commercially such as ESCAPE, Wavelength, or Working with Young People.

Expenses: All trainers' expenses such as travel and subsistence costs (but not accommodation when required) are covered in Young People in Focus' fee.

Cancellation Charges: If you have to cancel a course, charges apply.
