Course programme
The course involves lots of practical work and visits to conservation areas, zoos and farms. You will also do an extended research project. You will study modules in a wide range of animal-based topics, including Animal Health and Nutrition, Animal Biology, Exotic Species, Conservation, Animal Behaviour and Genetics.
You will need four GCSEs at grade C or above (these must include Science, Maths and English). Alternatively, you can have a Level 2 Diploma (at Merit or above) or Higher Diploma in Applied Science.You must also have a good reference from a school or employer, and complete an interview and assessment. Your commitment and interest in the subject will be assessed during the interview process.
Assessment is by practical demonstration in most units, with periodic written exams to demonstrate your understanding.
On successful completion of the course you can go on to study an animal or biology-related subject (such as Zoology) at university. You can also enter a veterinary nursing course, or seek immediate employment within the Animal Management industry.
