Course programme
You study a range of modules over your three years (five years part-time) including:
- Critical Health Issues
- Youth Culture, Youth Policy and Youth Work Practice
- Youth Justice
- Community Development in a Global Context.
Alongside taught modules, there are professional practice placements in each year of study. These placements meet the National Occupational Standards for Youth Work in England (2012).
A range of teaching methods are adopted including lectures, group work and interactive sessions. Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, with no formal examinations. Those wishing to top-up their Diploma in Community and Youth Work to an Honours degree can do so by completing the Honours stage of the course (Level 6) either full-time over one year or part-time over a year and a half.
If you already have another BA degree, you can become a qualified youth worker by studying our Masters in Community and Youth Work Studies.
