Course programme

Course Content

You study a range of modules over your three years (five years part-time) including:

  • Critical Health Issues
  • Youth Culture, Youth Policy and Youth Work Practice
  • Youth Justice
  • Community Development in a Global Context.

Alongside taught modules, there are professional practice placements in each year of study. These placements meet the National Occupational Standards for Youth Work in England (2012).

A range of teaching methods are adopted including lectures, group work and interactive sessions. Assessment is continuous throughout the programme, with no formal examinations. Those wishing to ‘top-up’ their Diploma in Community and Youth Work to an Honours degree can do so by completing the Honours stage of the course (Level 6) either full-time over one year or part-time over a year and a half.

If you already have another BA degree, you can become a qualified youth worker by studying our Masters in Community and Youth Work Studies.
