This short course will introduce learners to two methods of printing on clay both in the plastic and leather hard state. One method is monoprinting by using two different techniques and another method is a lithographic type process.

Course programme
Day 1 (3 hours)
Preparing work for the second session which needs to achieve leatherhard state. Learners can make tiles, press moulded forms or bring along work in a leather hard state using earthenware and/or stoneware clay bodies. Flat surfaces are desirable such as cylinders or tiles rather than complex curved pieces
Printing with lino cuts and lace onto plastic clay using printing medium and ceramic stains.
Day 2 (3 hours)
Printing onto leatherhard clay using a lithographic technique. The tutor will bring a range of images to use based on a discussion with learners in the previous session.
Monoprinting onto leatherhard clay using slips. This involves building up layers or slip on newspaper and transferring the print to the leatherhard object.
