About the course:
Currently this is a part-time course on Tuesday evenings from 18.00-21.00. It is a specific course focussing on IELTS exam strategies and tasks. IELTS is an academic course and prepares students to take the academic module of the IELTS exam. Most candidates need to take IELTS to get into university and students need to be a good intermediate level and higher to enrol on this course.

Many of our students have successfully attained the IELTS score they needed and have started their chosen courses at university.

Course Content:
In the classes students will be practise the skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. The main focus is to identify the different IELTS tasks practise techniques to complete them accurately and within the time allocated. These classes will help you to understand formal language on a variety of subjects. It is a serious exam preparation course. Regular homework will be set and is seen as an integral part of the course so students will be expected to do this. The classes are communicative and IT and the use of a language lab are used to add variety. Maximum class size is 18 and we have classes of mixed nationalities.

Learning Style:
A variety of approaches are used to help you learn as much as possible. Our courses are communicative and encourage you to actively use the structures, vocabulary and topics covered in the class.

Equipment Requirements:
You will be asked to buy a course book and a work book.

Assessment:
There will be timed essays, IELTS mock exams in all the papers; reading, listening, speaking and writing so that learners feel well prepared for the exam.

Progression:
Students can either continue to improve their English in an CAE or CPE class or study for an ESOL qualification, Level 1 or Level 2.

Additional Information:
It is a good idea to research your chosen course and have an idea of the IELTS score you are aiming for. You can often only find this out by contacting the universities or colleges directly or on their websites.

IELTS test score is valid for 2 years. You can take the test at any time during the course, the cost of the exam is not included in the price of the course. The test is offered once or twice a month at Southampton University and various test centres around the UK.

Enrolment Instructions:
You will need to complete an Initial Assessment Form, please come in to see the Information and Advice Team and bring your travel documents. You need to complete this then we will then invite you for interview
