About this course
As part of an advanced level programme, a minimum of 5 G.C.S.E.s at grade C or above (or the equivalent) and a minimum of Maths grade C is essential. In addition G.C.S.E. grade C in a science subject is essential. Grade C in English is also essential.
LENGTH OF COURSE
AS level is one year, followed by a second year for those progressing to A2 level.

Electronics AS and A2
INTRODUCTION
This course is based on the AQA Electronics specification, and complements other subject choices in science and mathematics, as well as computing and other areas of the curriculum.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
The course will enable you to develop an understanding of the processes and technology involved with electronics. The practical abilities which you will learn in the Electronics course can be used in basic everyday situations, and can form the basis for a future career.
AS CONTENT
Module 1: Foundation electronics
Module 2: Further electronics
Module 3: Coursework
AS ASSESSMENT
The AS award is achieved through satisfactory performance in two written examination papers and coursework in which students have to design, build and test an electronics system and report on their project. The AS may be awarded as a discrete qualification or count as 50% of the full A-level.
A2 CONTENT
Module 4: Electronic control systems
Module 5: Communication systems
Module 6: Coursework
A2 ASSESSMENT
The A2 part of the Advanced level award is achieved through satisfactory performance in two more written examinations and another coursework project.
HOW WILL I STUDY?
You will learn through self supported study with all the course notes and materials provided. The course is divided into units of work and assignments that you will work through. Informal assessment is continuous throughout by regular marked assignments and tests set by the tutor. The course is essentially practical; indeed you will find that practicals make up a major part of the weekly lesion.
