Course programme

The course is divided into two days. Each training day lasts approximately six hours.
The first day is devoted to exploring issues around why people can become angry
and what can be done to diffuse a difficult situation before any physical action needs to be considered.
The second day of the training is devoted to introducing course participants to a
variety of physical techniques that will help keep colleagues and the challenging
people they work with safe.
The entire course places the highest possible emphasis on preserving and developing
the empathic relationship between people who exhibit challenging behaviour and those who work with them.
Trust, honesty, empathy, integrity and respect are the values that underpin the work of the LBMS with clients throughout the public and private sectors. All the training is delivered with these values at the very core of the programme.
The course actively promotes constructive relationships that engage and empower individuals as far as possible and promote their care and welfare. Therefore LBMS training promotes how human and legal rights must be respected at all times. In essence the course sets out:
- How to prevent the necessity for physical interventions through an exploration of how incidents can arise and the practice of behaviour
de-escalation and diffusion to deal with them.
- How responses should be geared and planned to the needs of the individual. A variety of factors being considered:
-Knowledge of the individual and their history
-Concern for the safety of all involved
-Appropriate application of the techniques within the civil and criminal law
-The professional accountability of all
- A comprehensive practice of the physical techniques and how, if executed effectively, they can ensure safer outcomes for all.
