Course Description
This course will provide you with an in-depth working knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the body, massage techniques and aftercare procedures. The emphasis of the course however is placed on safe exercise, use of gym and sauna equipment and healthy living. This course would suit anyone seeking to develop a career in sports therapy.
You will be required to complete a relevant work placement in a gym, fitness studio, physiotherapy department or sports club. We have contacts to organise work experience at local gym/fitness centres that are happy to take students on placement. You will be invited to provide treatments for local sports clubs and the Centre for Football Development at Craven College.
You will be required to pay for your own uniform and kit and will be required to have a CRB check (approx cost £40).

Course Length and Study Pattern
1 year Full-time. Students have to commit to a large amount of home study and independent research, approximately 10 - 12 hours per week. You will be expected to organise and maintain your working portfolios and attend external examinations.

Work Experience
You will be required to organise and complete relevant work placement i.e. Gym, Fitness Studios or Sports Club. We have some contacts to organise placements with local gyms/fitness centres that are happy to take students on placement, but it is predominantly your responsibility to arrange this. It is carried out around Easter time.
Assessment
Assessment is carried out in a number of ways:
Preparation of a portfolio of evidence including assignments
Ongoing practical assessment
Completion of workbooks
Externally and Internally set examinations
Trips and Enrichment Activities
You will be invited to provide treatments for local sports clubs and the Centre for Football Development at Craven College. You will support Football Aid, a nationwide charity attending professional stadiums to prepare players for a game, then offer first aid in case of injury. You may also support local sports teams, ie basketball or running clubs and attend half marathons to offer massages after competing.
